Metro to Barcelona airport: the L9 Sud line
Metro line L9 Sud has a station at each airport terminal, but it doesn't reach central Barcelona: to get to Plaça Catalunya you need at least one change and the journey takes 45 to 55 minutes. It also requires a special ticket that costs more than a standard single.

Route and changes
The L9 Sud runs from the airport to Zona Universitària, via L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and the Fira Gran Via area. The most useful changes for reaching the centre are:
- Torrassa → L1 (red): towards Plaça Espanya, Universitat, Catalunya and Arc de Triomf.
- Collblanc → L5 (blue): towards Sants Estació, Diagonal and Sagrada Família.
- Zona Universitària → L3 (green): towards Les Corts, Paral·lel, Liceu and Passeig de Gràcia.
Price: the airport ticket
To enter or exit the metro at the airport stations you need the airport ticket (bitllet aeroport), which costs €5.90 in 2026 and lets you change to other metro lines. The T-casual and the standard single ticket are not valid at these stations. The Hola Barcelona card and some resident passes such as the T-usual are valid.
Opening hours
The Barcelona metro opens at 5:00 and closes at midnight from Sunday to Thursday, at 2:00 on Fridays and the eve of public holidays, and runs all night on Saturdays. Check the exact times on the TMB website before a very early flight or a late arrival.
Metro or Aerobus?
The metro is worth it if you're staying near an L9 station or one of the lines it connects with, or if you already have the Hola Barcelona card. If you're going to the centre, the Aerobus is faster (30-35 minutes, no changes), runs all night, and the stairs and corridors at interchanges aren't easy with large suitcases. The price difference compared with the metro airport ticket is just under €2.
